Jenison, MI (2-21-17) -- Merritt Speedway is pleased to announce their 2018 season schedule. The speedway that has been dubbed “Michigan’s Premier Dirt Track”, will feature full programs of racing entertainment all summer. All eight of Merritt’s weekly divisions will make a return this season, including UMP Late Models, UMP Modifieds, B Modifieds, Lightning Sprints, Pro Stocks, Factory Stocks, Four Cylinders and Mini Wedges. Merritt Speedway has racing every Saturday night from May to September.
The tracks 50th anniversary season will begin with opening night on Saturday, May 19 and feature $8 admission. Memorial Weekend this season will feature a special 2-day event. On Saturday, May 26, the Great Lakes Super Sprints will take center stage, and be accompanied with a $1,500-to-win B Modified special. On Sunday, May 27, the UMP Late Models will compete for $2,000-to-win, UMP Modifieds $1,500-to-win, and a special payout for the Four Cylinders.
The Fourth Annual Merritt Showdown makes its return on Wednesday, June 6, and is a keystone event on the 2018 schedule. The American Ethanol Late Model Tour as well as the American Ethanol Modified Tour will both be on hand for this show. The Four Cylinders will also race for an increased purse, rounding the three-division midweek show. The American Ethanol Modified Tour will also race at Merritt on Saturday, June 23.
Independence Weekend has quickly turned into a major event at Merritt Speedway, and 2018 will be no different. Tuesday, July 3 will feature fan appreciation night, including $5 admission, prerace autographs, and postrace fireworks! All weekly Merritt divisions are on the card, allowing everyone to meet fans and race in front of what is typically a sold-out crowd.
Friday and Saturday, July 20 and 21 will see the 30th Annual Ed VanDuinen Wood Tic take place. Originally scheduled for Saturday and Sunday of that weekend, Merritt is moving the event forward one-day to best accommodate drivers who will be looking to also race with the American Ethanol Tours at Millstream Speedway on Sunday, July 22. The Wood Tic is always a season highlight for race fans across Michigan, offering increased payouts for all divisions racing and the fun party atmosphere. The theme for this year’s annual event is Halloween, and awards will be given out to campsites best decorated. Other special activities around this weekend will be announced later.
Merritt Speedway will commemorate its 50th Anniversary on Friday and Saturday, August 3-4. Each of Merritt’s weekly divisions will be in action, featuring the seasons highest payout and two nights of special events. While more details will be announced at a later date, the anniversary special presented by Gilboe’s Lock and Safe will be a weekend that racers and fans alike won’t want to miss.
Labor Day weekend will draw the points season to a close, with the Gene Kregear Championship on Saturday, September 1 and Sunday, September 2. All Merritt divisions will race on both nights, including increased pay for the Four Cylinders.
Other notable events in 2018 include the Traditional Sprint Series on June 9, the Sprints on Dirt August 25, and the MORA group racing June 16, July 13, and August 25. Merritt will also host the October special again in 2018 and will take place on either the sixth or 13th.
