Good afternoon racing family. Boy Saturday came quick, after a big fourth of July holiday weekend three days that we had. This past Saturday turned out to be the perfect weather for a night of racing, and we had a full lineup once again! The Engine Pro Sprints on Dirt joined our already stacked show and it all went really well.
Unfortunately, after the three big days last weekend, and the sunny, breezy, three divisions of qualifying in the sun that we had, made for a pretty dry tough track. We’re certainly aware that it wasn’t ideal and working hard to make it good for the Wood Tic this weekend.
Thank you to all the competitors that came out to put on a show Saturday night! Chad Finley returned to victory lane, having to drive around Eric Spangler who was leading at the time, to pick up his second Merritt victory with strong performance. Paul Johnson captured his first career UMP Modified win, edging Dave Baker who was hot on his heels all race. Congrats to Paul on the big victory and its always great to see new faces in victory lane! Cody Bauer continues to be hot, getting another win in the B Mods, with Rick Spencer winning in the Factory Stocks and Willard VanHaitsma in the Four Cylinders. Katie Robinson and Keeton Cade were our Mini Wedge victors! Special nod to the TJ Erickson, who earned a hard fought $1,000 by winning the Pro Stock feature event on Saturday!
We’d like to thank the Engine Pro Sprints on Dirt organization for coming in and putting on really great races all night. Ryan Ruhl was the big winner, and we congratulate he and his team. Compliments to all the drivers though, racing on a slick track and going caution free in the feature and pretty much the other events as well. We look forward to their return on August 19 for our annual open wheel spectacular presented by Allstar Performance.
This coming weekend is one of the greatest racing traditions still around. We’re honored to host the 29th Annual Ed VanDuinen Wood Tic, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. On Thursday, we start things off with the Summer Nationals Hell Tour, including $5,000-to-win and $500-to-start for the UMP Late Models! The UMP Modifieds, B Modifieds, Factory Stocks and Four Cylinders are also racing on Thursday - with a reminder that Pro Stocks and Lightning Sprints are NOT racing Thursday. ALL of our regular divisions (LM, Mod, BMod, LS, PS, FS, 4C, MW) are all racing on Friday and Saturday.
Friday, we will have 10 lap heats and 15 lap dash for cash races for all divisions! All heat races are top finishers in the dash for cash races will be paying events! After the races, we’ll feature a DJ and complimentary food provided to drivers and teams on the concourse. We will also judge the campsites that are decorated for this year’s theme ‘Christmas in July’ with a cash prize to the top two sites!
Saturday, we will have extended feature races for every division, as well as odd and even qualifying races for UMP Late Models and UMP Mods! All payouts will be disbursed on Saturday night. Drivers who cannot attend Friday but wish to compete Saturday, can do so with no problem and will simply tag the tail end of their respective race/qualifier.
I’m especially excited about the B Modified class week after week. They’ve been putting on outstanding races and had stout car counts. If this continues, you can look forward to bigger and better things for this division in 2018. For the WoodTic, $3,000 is up for grabs between Thursday and Saturday night features alone!
We are going to Hoosier on Wednesday - We are getting the M60's for the UMP Mods, but if you want something different, shoot us a FB message or email.
A note on our UMP Late Models and UMP Modifieds… we’re trying our best to provide an entertaining, but fair and straight forward approach to how the feature lineup is set. If you’d like to provide constructive insight, we welcome thoughts and ideas. Please PRIVATE MESSAGE the Facebook page, and thanks in advance for your thoughts.
