Good afternoon everyone! I just wanted to take the time and wish ya’ll a very good Thanksgiving tomorrow. Remember to be thankful for all the things in your life that are important to you, and don’t be afraid to express that gratitude as well.
I would personally like to say thank you to the fans, drivers, staff and sponsors that support Merritt Speedway, and the success its had over the last three seasons. As most of you know, 2017 was a bit rough for me in some areas, but I still continually look back at Merritt and have great joy in operating the track and very thankful for the opportunity.
Last weekend, I had the pleasure of attending the American Ethanol Dirt Racing Group (Late Models and Mods) awards banquet. What a banquet it was! As I sat there and watched the payout that was given to the drivers, it made me reflect on how thankful I think we all should be. Carbon Green Bio Energy has pumped a tremendous amount of resources into dirt racing in our area, and we are blessed to have them. This also goes for other traveling series and the sponsors that keep them afloat.
When I compare the payouts to asphalt… it is night and day! A few years ago I operated a template Late Model race team for Ross Kenseth, and we chased the points and traveled for a specific series. After $500,000+ in season expenses, we finished second in points. At the awards banquet I got a check for $1,700 - and this was one of the premier tours in the country.
Having experience with things such as that, and to now have the American Ethanol Tours and other series, as well as all the tracks here in Michigan, really do provide drivers and fans a great opportunity. So, thank you again to everyone who helps dirt racing in our state be what it is today!
I hope you all have a great Thanksgiving!
