Hello everybody! Boy would it be nice to have had racing scheduled last weekend or this upcoming weekend, with these temps and dry weather forecasts! Those Indian Summer days look like they might be here a little earlier this year, but we will have to wait and see how it works out.
Many Merritt drivers and fans travel to the annual Corn Harvest, which takes place this weekend, and we wish them all the best of luck, fun and safety as you enjoy your time there. Also good luck to Berlin Raceway, as they host their first of three dirt weekend races beginning on Saturday night this week.
Steady work and progress is being made on our awards banquet, which takes place on Saturday, November 11. All drivers in attendance will receive a trophy, no matter where they finished in points, but tickets must be purchased by October 13 in order to get the trophy. We’ll be reaching out to drivers next week who might be interested in ordering tickets, and will be able to do so right over the phone. If you would like to place an order securely online, click HERE. If you have not attended a Merritt banquet in the past, we’d love to have you join us.
For 2018… We are looking at having two classes within the Four Cylinder division, a true entry level rookie class, and an experienced class (to be determined). I emphasized this at our final drivers meeting, but again want to point out that a big focus for Merritt in 2018 and beyond will be our B Modified division. I plan to do big things with that division and am excited about the prospects of growth. We are also committed to running the UMP Modifieds again in 2018 for a full season as well. In addition, all of our other divisions will remain the same next season.
We’d like to ask for prayers and support for Dan Salay and his family and friends. Dan helps out Brandon Thirlby is a big part of the racing family, and is in the fight for his life. Support for Dan and everyone that surrounds him at this time would be greatly appreciated.
As most know, this past year was uniquely difficult for me for a few different reasons. I am happy to say though that we’re moving in a very good direction. Merritt Speedway will celebrate its 50th Anniversary in 2018 and we have some neat things in the works.
