Happy Monday everyone. Wanted to check in today on a few things since we’ve gone awhile without much activity. Hope you are all having a good winter so far.
We’ve had a few sporadic announcements over the last couple weeks regarding our 2018 schedule. If you missed it, we will race on both Saturday and Sunday of Memorial Weekend this year. $1,500-to-win for the B Modifieds on the 26th, and $2,000-to-win for the UMP Late Models and $1,500-to-win for the UMP Modifieds on the 27th!
You may have noticed over the last several weeks, we’ve been featuring some classic ‘throwback’ pictures from the earlier days of Merritt Speedway. Seeing the positive response to those has been pretty neat, and why we continued to push it. Unfortunately, we are short on pictures that haven’t yet been shared. If you have a vintage picture before 2000, send it over to us via the Facebook page.
Good afternoon everyone! I just wanted to take the time and wish ya’ll a very good Thanksgiving tomorrow. Remember to be thankful for all the things in your life that are important to you, and don’t be afraid to express that gratitude as well.
Last Saturday night, we officially ended the 2017 season with our banquet at Soaring Eagle Casino and Resort. The night went great and I’d like to thank the Soaring Eagle staff for all their hard work on making the event a success. Great food, atmosphere, and all around experience.
Hello everybody! Boy would it be nice to have had racing scheduled last weekend or this upcoming weekend, with these temps and dry weather forecasts! Those Indian Summer days look like they might be here a little earlier this year, but we will have to wait and see how it works out.
Good afternoon fellow racing fans! Hope you each had a nice Labor Day Weekend! This past weekend we closed out our 2017 regular season and the points championships in all of our classes. In addition, we hosted the American Ethanol Late Model and Modified tours.
Good afternoon! Well just like that, our big World of Outlaws weekend is behind us. The season has continued to cruise on by and now we’re down to just one points weekend of 2017 remaining. Last Saturday night we had beautiful perfect weather, with sunshine and mid-70’s all day long. Thank you to the fans that joined us Saturday, and were treated to some great racing.
First up, I want to recognize an omission that was accidentally made last week. The same few people have ruled the Four Cylinder class for a while, but Austin Harnick has run up front and got the victory on August 12. Congratulations to him and the family on their triumph, and we’re sorry for missing that in last week’s thoughts.
Hello all. Hope you each had a nice weekend! Saturday was interesting weather wise, as it was sunny and beautiful when I left Cadillac, and when I arrived at Merritt, it was soaked with puddles everywhere. Things cleared up late in the evening and we had a nice car count and good turnout for Fan Appreciation Night. Our grounds crew accidentally clipped the scoring loop line while weed whacking last week, which forced us to skip qualifying while that was fixed, and was good to go for racing. The autograph session went well, and we want to thank all the racers who brought goodies, candy and signed for the fans. Always cool to see.
Hope you all had an enjoyable weekend! Last Saturday, we hosted 108 race cars on our Champion Recognition Night. Thank you to all the competitors who came out and put on a great show for a solid crowd. Special thank you to the former speedway champs who came to the front stretch pre-race and the meal served as well. It was also my pleasure to recognize the Ancel family, as we honored the late Rod Ancel. It was a joy to have them all out at the track last week, as we presented them with a photo, as well as flowers and had a group photo taken.
Hello all. Hope your weekend was great! Last Saturday we had some beautiful weather, and our first ‘regular’ night of racing in several weeks. The racing was outstanding as well, but the fan count was a bit light from what we expected. Maybe too many specials? Anyway, hopefully we can turn that around moving forward for the final five weekends of racing.
Merritt Speedway is pleased to announce Gilboe’s Lock and Safe has signed on as the newest partner to the track for the duration of 2017 and beyond. The Mount Pleasant, Michigan based company has been a major supporter to drivers and teams in the area for years, and expands their coverage by joining Michigan’s Premier Dirt Track.
Happy Monday Merritt family! Another not ideal Saturday weather wise hit us with dark clouds until closer to race time. Fortunately, it did get sunny and we had a nice turnout of fans in the stands to watch what was a great night of racing and value!
And just like that, it’s the middle of July and two of our bigger shows are in the rearview mirror. Now we have a few ‘normal’ weeks in a row, first with the Great Lakes Super Sprints coming to town this weekend.
Good afternoon racing family. Boy Saturday came quick, after a big fourth of July holiday weekend three days that we had. This past Saturday turned out to be the perfect weather for a night of racing, and we had a full lineup once again! The Engine Pro Sprints on Dirt joined our already stacked show and it all went really well.
Wow! What a weekend. Thank you so much to all the drivers, teams, fans and employees that joined us for what was a jammed packed high excitement weekend! It was certainly one of my best events and I think everyone was surprised with how great the turnouts were each night.
Merritt Speedway has announced that Engine Pro Sprints On Dirt will make up last Saturday’s rain out on July 8th.With the announcement, SOD has been able to move the MAHLE/Clevite Beyond Limits Challenge back to Merritt, maintaining the series’ format of five races at five different speedways.
Last Saturday was a difficult decision for me having to cancel. It was down pouring at the speedway from about 2:30 to 4:00, and the track was getting pretty well saturated. After the attempt to race on June 17 and winding up with a weak car count and fans, it made me more gun-shy than I usually am at trying to still race.
Merritt Speedway officials are ready for a huge weekend of racing, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday this coming weekend. Soaring Eagle Casino and Resort, recognizing the size of the weekends slate of events, signed on to be the title sponsor of all racing over the independence weekend of racing at Michigan’s Premier Dirt Track.
INDIANAPOLIS, IN. (June 22, 2017) - A collective decision between Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions and Merritt Speedway officials resulted in the cancellation of the Saturday, July 1, visit to Merritt Speedway in Merritt, Michigan. Track officials and Series representatives hope to work together in bringing the Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions back to Michigan in the future.
We’ll start with Saturday, June 10, as drivers got dialed in for the Merritt Showdown in what was a great night of racing. Eric Spangler, David Mielke, and Cody Bauer all revisited victory lane on June 10. Jordan Erickson was hooked up in his lightning sprint and lapped all but second place in en-route to his win, while Rob Westergard and Jim Miller Jr. showed the way in Pro Stock and Factory Stock features.
Lake City, Michigan (Wednesday, June 14th, 2017): The second race of the 2017 racing season for the American Ethanol Modified Tour presented by Allstar Performance would see the AEMODT cars and stars travel north to Merritt Speedway on Wednesday, June 14th. The AEMODT contingent were a part of the 3rd Annual Merritt Showdown presented by Don’s Auto Clinic at the fast ¼ (0.250) mile semi-banked dirt oval located west of Houghton Lake in Lake City, Michigan. The second ever AEMODT race and first of three appearances by the premier DIRTcar UMP Modified Tour in the Great Lakes/Midwestern region of the United States would see a thrilling Allstar Performance 40-Lap Feature and when all was said and done, Jacob Poel would walk away with a $1,500 payday.
